Designing an Outstanding Customer Survey

Sending out surveys is a valuable means of obtaining feedback on new products and customer services. The responses of your clients give you crucial information that can assist you in making knowledgeable business decisions. Here are some tips on how to design effective customer surveys.

Set Goals

Before you begin creating your customer surveys, clarify your goals. Deciding what you hope to accomplish will assist you in selecting survey templates and devising the questions. Be sure your company logo and colors are prominent so that the survey consistently highlights your brand.

Prepare Questions

When you are composing questions, keep them clear and simple. Each question should cover one specific item at a time or the recipient may become confused. These questions should be straightforward and free of bias so that you don’t sway the opinions of your audience. To prevent survey-takers from stopping before they are finished, many customer surveys are limited to five to 10 questions. These may comprise a variety of types such as multiple choice, sliding scales, drop-down menus, and spaces for comments, but to avoid confusing your clients, use only a few different question types in each survey. After you’ve finished, run a trial survey with a few coworkers to catch any errors.

Create an Invitation to Participants

If you are sending your survey by email, create an enticing subject line that intrigues your prospective participants. In the body of the email, compose a compelling invitation with a friendly greeting, an explanation of the survey’s purpose, and an estimation of how long it will take them to finish it. Consider offering them a small incentive such as an entry in a drawing for a prize if they complete it. At the bottom, have a clear call to action with a link that takes them straight to the survey.

Send It Out

Send the survey to your entire email list, or select the segment you want to target. If some clients haven’t responded, email a reminder after a few days. When the responses come in, analyze the data, and use the information to improve your business.
